Braces aren’t popular with many people. Invisalign, however, is a much better cosmetic and dental solution. So, how long has this solution been around?
If you wanted straighter teeth in the past, the only option you had was metal braces. I know we’ve all heard some horror stories about these contraptions. Well, now, we can choose something called Invisalign that can work the same teeth straightening miracles.
The Origin of Invisalign
In 1997, Invisalign was born. It replaced the metal wires and brackets that came with wearing traditional braces. Invisalign removed the uncomfortable sensations associated with having “metal in the mouth.” Zia Chishti, a student at Stanford University, came up with the basic idea of Invisalign while having this metal braces removed and being fit for a retainer. It would take a while for the idea of Invisalign to develop into a completed product.
When Chishti returned to school, he partnered with three other students, Kelsey Wirth, Apostolos Lenos, and Brian Freyburger to fully develop the invention. As the idea flourished, the group also tried to keep in mind that costs should be affordable to those who wished to embark upon teeth straightening.
With the investment of a small company, Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield, and Byers, and the use of a 3D printing machine, the group created what we know today as Aligning technology, the mother of Invisalign. This technology is what created the innovative Invisalign product which helps straightened teeth without the use of uncomfortable metal braces of decades before.
