Women, Wisdom, and the Power of a Smile
Every woman has a story—a journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and moments of self-discovery. Dr. Sherin Zarghouni, a dynamic dentist at both Bayside Dental and Orthodontics, embodies the essence of perseverance and passion. Her story is not just about dentistry; it’s about empowering others to follow their dreams and making the world a brighter place, one smile at a time.
Q. Can you share a bit about your background before stepping into this field? What motivated you to make the transition?
A. It all started from Assisting to Leading.
Dr. Zarghouni didn’t always know she’d end up in dentistry. In fact, she found her calling in an unexpected place: her sister’s dental school. “When I was 15, I would spend my summers at her school, helping out, watching patients’ transformations,” she recalls. “It was an eye-opening experience. I realized that dentistry was more than just teeth—it was about changing lives.”
Her passion only grew from there. After majoring in psychology at the University of Houston, she honed her ability to connect with people, knowing that dentistry is as much about understanding the mind as it is about the mouth.
Q. Were there any moments when you doubted yourself or your decision to pursue this field? How did you overcome those doubts?
A. Dr. Zarghouni’s path to becoming a successful dentist wasn’t without its challenges. Like many women, she faced moments of self-doubt, especially during the rigorous years of dental school. “There were days I thought I couldn’t make it. But I kept telling myself, ‘You’re meant to do this,’” she says.
Q. What advice do you have for women looking to pursue their passion while maintaining a healthy work-life balance?
A. Her advice for women facing similar challenges? “Push through, even when it seems impossible. If it makes you happy, if it’s your dream, it’s worth the hard work.” Her story is a reminder that success isn’t always linear, but the effort pays off.
Q. What changes or improvements would you like to see in your industry to make it more inclusive for women?
A. For Dr. Zarghouni, giving back is an essential part of her journey. Through free dental exams and educational outreach to local schools, she ensures that children have the knowledge they need to take care of their smiles for a lifetime. “If I can make a difference in just one child’s life, it’s all worth it,” she says with a warm smile.
Her community involvement goes beyond dental care—it’s about showing kids the importance of healthy habits and helping them build confidence.
Q. Who has been the most influential woman in your life, and why?
A. When asked who inspires her the most, Dr. Zarghouni’s response was – her sister. “She’s always been there for me, encouraging me when things got tough. She’s not just my sister; she’s my mentor,” Dr. Zarghouni says.
The bond between the two women has been pivotal in Dr. Zarghouni’s journey, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and female solidarity in every aspect of life and work.
Q. What message would you like to share with women who are striving to find their voice or confidence?
A. As a final note, Dr. Zarghouni encourages all women to embrace what makes them unique. “The world doesn’t need you to be like anyone else. The most powerful thing you can do is be true to yourself,” she says.
Her message is clear: women should never underestimate their own worth. Embracing individuality, staying committed to growth, and supporting one another is the key to achieving success and fulfillment.
Q. How do you continue to grow professionally and personally, and how do you stay motivated?
A. Dr. Zarghouni is constantly evolving, both as a professional and as a person. Whether through travel or continuing education, she’s always learning and finding new ways to stay inspired. “Traveling with my family helps me stay grounded. It opens my mind to new perspectives and keeps me motivated in my work,” she shares.
